Nepal being a country between two enormous and powerful nations has certain influence of the world events. The major cities are affected by the world events like price hike in food products, petroleum products and many more. Whereas some remote regions of my country have no knowledge nor care about what is happening around the world. The government of Nepal is not stable and the nation is not able to develop the country uniformly. The nation is going to suffer, mostly the major cities because of globalization. Almost 95 percentages of imports are done by the government from neighbouring countries China and India. Hence, in present situation, the nation could be the victim of crisis because of world events.

Firstly, the nation does not have enough budgets to live on its own and nowadays, Nepal cannot improve and perform development activities without having peaceful policies with foreign nation as the nation does not have complete resources to develop the nation. Hence, the foreign policies and the world events which are interconnected with each other have some effects on my country. The rise in prices of food products and petroleum products in the cities affected the lifestyle of people in our country few months ago. The rise in population and the global change of prices made the country suffer from huge crisis in the valley last month. Hence, economy of the nation does get affected by the global change.

Similarly, sociocultural aspects also affect the nation as the world is a global village. Nepal has been affected by the foreign language and foreign lifestyles. It is not a surprise to see private boarding schools making English language their first priority and forcing students to communicate in it whenever they can. Housing styles have been affected too as we can see large number of apartments with various designs in Kathmandu valley. Likewise, Nepalese go wild over Hollywood and Hollywood songs, movies and celebrities. Nepalese enjoy the various social networking sites like facebook, twitter and many more where people can communicate with each other, share ideas, pictures and many other things to be done.

Moreover, we are affected by the world events concerning environmental issues and health issues. The major problem for the world could be the global warning which will surely affect Nepal. The ices of Himalayas are melting and glaciers are expanding and some are in the verge of eruption. The pollution created from the industries of developed nations, the under developed and developing countries like Nepal might be the victim of great disaster caused by global warming. As a matter of fact, the diseases get widespread and results in health problems. Finally, Nepal will suffer from massive deaths of people and suffer from crisis due to world events like global warming and many other problems concerning environmental issues. Furthermore, the pollution from the neighbouring nation India is carried to Nepal by monsoon winds resulting acid rain. As a result, the terrestrial as well as aquatic animals and plants, monuments and traditional buildings get destroyed.

Furthermore, Nepalese politics have been influenced by the foreign political events and ideologies. All the twenty five political parties which constitute the recent Constituent Assembly have different views and ideas as forming the government as these parties are highly influenced by the foreign parties. For instance, Maoists, the one who gained the highest votes in the election, want the government like that of United States of America where the president is given full power whereas Nepali Congress, the one who got the second highest votes in the election, want the Prime Minister be given full authority like that of Indian government. Hence, the global political events do and have influenced Nepal.

However, there are some regions where people’s lifestyles are not affected by the rise in petroleum products and many other things and people do not care and have no knowledge on various entertaining factors like international sporting events, social networking sites and many more. The number of tourists that visit Nepal will not mean anything to people who are facing various discrimination in remote areas.

In conclusion, Nepal is influenced by the world events but, it depends on which part or sector are we talking about like urban or remote, rich or poor and facilitated or impoverished. Only the urban regions are affected by the world events and it has no influence on remote areas as they have their own resources and entertainment factors. Hence, it is wise to say that only certain regions of Nepal are affected by the global happenings.

Science has always played a significant role in enhancing the quality of human beings. Quality of life is simply termed as well being of social, economic and physical aspects of a person. Scientific and technological innovations have always acted as a catalyst in promoting quality of life and welfare of all mankind. I agree with the fact that scientific inventions revolutionized the human civilization and helped to enhance quality of life. Hence, it is inevitable that science and technology improves quality of life.

Health is the major factor that is responsible for better quality of life. Scientists have come up with different methods of curing common diseases without any unpleasant medications or seizures. Even some of the fatal diseases such as cancer, heart diseases, ulcers are cured with the aid of scientific methods. Heart transplant, a recent invention in medical history have given hope to many people lying on death bed due to heart diseases. Scientists have invented vacuum cleaners for sanitation, compost-pit method to dispose garbage and so on to reduce health risks and ultimately improve quality of life. Though some medications may be too expensive to afford, science has brought us easier and reliable methods to make money.

Money being the primary factor evaluate economic status of a person and eventually his quality of life, is difficult to earn in this highly competitive world where thousands of applicants fight for a vacancy in a company. Scientists developed internet for good purpose and today people have made the most of it. Google, the leading search engine company in the technological world, recently launched its new feature known as ‘Google Adsense’ where the user can upload his blog, website, forums and earn money through advertisements. Similarly, there are forums such as Minuteworkers, Digitalpoint that provides numerous opportunities to earn money online. Moreover, modern farming method yields maximum production leading to maximum money making.

Besides money and health, social well-being is equally responsible for the quality of life. Today, the world has turned into a global village, thanks to communication and transportation technology. The entire world has turned into a small society. People from China, now can settle in America. There has developed mutual understanding between the countries and different societies. We are aware of qualitative environment. In Nepal itself, gender discrimination which once was prominent in history, is slowly abolishing due to western influence. This is all possible due to scientific and technological innovations. Science has taught us to live in a society qualitatively. Furthermore, people are far more educated and well informed about the world due to invention of internet, mobile phones and television. Thus, it is inevitable that science has improved the social status of an individual.

However, the argument on whether science and technology truly promotes quality of life can be controversial if we focus on the certain loop holes. With increasing technical accessories such as iPad, iPod, fancy mobile sets and gadgets youngsters become obsessed with it and spend a lot of time playing with it. Today, 90% of urban youths spend half day on internet. They are more influenced with fast food products which is the invention of technology. This results in obesity, loss of economy and hence decreases the quality of life.

The whole living organisms depend upon environment for their existence. The environment is degrading day by day either through natural process or through human activities. Environmental degradation is the deterioration of the environment through depletion of natural resources such as air, water and soil, destruction of ecosystem and the extinction of wildlife. The loss of biodiversity has created imbalance in the ecosystem. Biodiversity is the numbers, variety and variability of living organisms at the species level. Each and every living organisms are linked with each other. Many animals and plants are in the verge of extinction due to environmental degradation. The largest areas of concern at present are the loss of rain forests, air pollution and smog, ozone depletion and destruction of marine environment. Environmental degradation can occur naturally or through human processes or activities, though we can say that human are more likely to be responsible for the degradation of the environment.

Nowadays, human beings are the major cause of the deterioration of the environment. We are the ones who degrade the environment directly when we consume the natural resources and indirectly, when we modify and purify the natural resources, waste products are produced, as a result, environment gets degraded. In 1999, the number of people on Earth exceeded six billion. The rapid increase in population consumed more resources to support the growing population and to raise the human life standards. Thus, population growth is the major cause of environmental degradation.

Pollution is also one of the cause of environmental degradation. Pollution is occurring all over the world and poisoning the planet’s oceans. Even in remote areas, the effects of land destruction are obvious. In some areas, the natural environment has been exposed to hazardous waste. In other places, major disasters such as oil spills have ruined the local environment. The excessive use of non-biodegradable products like plastics and many more have degraded the land and water. The leakage of sewage to the water resources have polluted the water. The nuclear tests experimented in land and oceans by developed countries like America, North Korea, Afghanistan and many more countries have deteriorated the environment.

Deforestation is also the cause of environmental degradation. Humans are cutting down trees for firewood, timber, medicinal purposes and many more. Deforestation and the logging industries have destroyed many tropical rain forests around the world. This has destroyed many natural habitats, and the plants and animals native to the areas. As a result, biodiversity is being disturbed.

Likewise, the use of newly developed chemicals in land, water and in other fields have degraded the environment. The varieties and quantities of chemicals that are available to humans have released into the air, soil and water. These chemicals have increased pollution and caused serious disease problems in humans. The overuse of pesticides and insecticides around the world have degraded the soil. The agricultural production has been decreased which may result scarcity of food in the future if the wise utilization of various chemicals is not done. Newly, developed chemicals are also responsible for environmental degradation.

Some of the natural calamities like flood, earthquakes, soil erosion and many more have also degraded the environment. The natural calamities have destroyed the physical structures of soil and the human properties. It has also destroyed the habitats of various animals. As a result, it has created imbalance in the ecosystem.

Biodiversity plays an important role in human life. Without the biodiversity, life on Earth would have been impossible. The variation of plants and animals have created balance in the environment. Every living organisms are linked with each other and both human development and biodiversity are inter-related. Every decision we take that affects biodiversity, also affects our lives and the lives of other people. Biodiversity is crucial to human well-being, sustainable development and poverty reduction.

Biodiversity is essential to global food security and nutrition. Natural predators such as wasps and birds help reduce pests that destroy crops, and many of the world’s stable crops are pollinated by insects, animals birds and other living organisms. Without biodiversity, we would have no food. Since agriculture began some 12,000 years ago, approximately 7,000 plant species and several thousand animals have been used for human consumption.

Are acts of terrorism ever justified?

There are people all around the world, who wishes for their individual desires to a large extent that they perform an event that can affect the rest of the world by placing it in a pessimistic situation. This is acknowledged as terrorism. Terrorists who do not concern of others opinions and ideas place the lives of innocent people at risk, just for their own requests or benefits. Terrorists use violet tactics or actions in an effort to create political change, threaten or induce fear in public or government, raise media attention or further their political cause. Unfortunately, many times terrorist attacks fall upon innocent victims. Thus, terrorism when imposed on innocent civilians can never be justified.
Consequently, the nature of terrorism has come under intense media focus and is subject to immense debate, especially on its justification. One must know that terrorism is an act of widespread violence that kills thousands of innocent civilians. War should be fought by those holding the guns and killing the innocent people, not by women, the old and the very young people. For example, in 2008 hundred of innocent people were killed in Mumbai terrorist attack including many foreigners.

Similarly, terrorism involves murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment or some other serious crimes which denies life or liberty. The taking of innocent life for one’s own advancement of a cause cannot be dismissed as justifiable. As it stands today, any person can be killed by a terrorist attack anywhere in the world at any time. It has seized our human rights or right to live in peace. Terrorism used to be targeted at certain groups, religions, nationalities or races. Today, it has been random murder on a mass scale in promotion of a groups particular belief. However, profound and self-righteous that belief may be, it still equates to murder. Thus, terrorism cannot be justified.
Terrorism has long been used as an underhanded tactic by various organizations to achieve their targets or goals, whether they can be political, social, economical or environmental. Terrorism is never the only choice, and methods like diplomacy can be just as effective. We can see that terrorism only creates more violence, and each time it is committed, the amount of casualties increases. This only proves that it is unacceptable to use such a brutal action, such as terrorism to achieve their means. Terrorists violate the sanctity of human life by wasting them to achieve their selfish aims.

Likewise, terrorism is a passion and passions are difficult to control. It was the passion of hate that made Hitler in Germany kill so many innocent people, kids, women and men equally. It was passion that drove the Kamikazer, one who attempt to crash their aircraft into enemy ships or planes often heavily loaded with explosives, bombs and fuel tanks themselves. It was passion for their benefit that the terrorists crashed into the World Trade Center that killed hundreds of innocent civilians in United States.
In my opinion, terrorism is never justified. Peaceful and democratic means must always be used. Even when democratic rights are denied, non-violent protest is the only moral action. In the most extreme cases, in which subject populations are weak and vulnerable to reprisals from the attacked state, it is especially important for groups not to resort to terror. Terrorism merely exacerbates a situation, and creates a cycle of violence and suffering. It is based on threat and fear which only aggravates disorder in the society.
In conclusion, the success of terrorism is not guaranteed, it is an immoral gamble to kill people in the hope of achieving something else. Even if the goal was realized, the price paid is literally incalculable. The fear, suffering and death caused by terrorism damage millions of people. Not just the victims are affected, with their families and fellow citizens, but also people in many different countries who are put at risk because terrorists from other countries are inspired by these extremely unpleasant acts. Thus, killing innocents civilians are victims as a result of terrorist acts which can never be justified.
